A route shaped by the geography of the fjords and their islands
Starting in Tromsø and heading toward the southern border of Finnmark, we will traverse the major mountain ranges along the Norwegian coast:
- the Lyngen Peninsula with its magnificent traverses
- the islands of Arnoya and Laukoya, with their gentle slopes and peaceful peaks
- the islands of Kagen and Uloya, which offer traverses worthy of the finest ski mountaineering routes
- The Reinfjord, on the border of Finnmark and at the foot of the Langfjordjokolen ice cap
Depending on the weather, wind, and snow conditions, other great options may be added:
- the southern Lyngen Alps,
- the island of Senja, still wild and spectacular,
- or other hidden valleys where the snow lingers for a long time.
Our sole guiding principle: to maximise the quality of the experience, without being constrained by a rigid programme.
Being willing to go with the flow – the weather, the snow and the moment… that’s exactly what makes this trip so alive.
Why this period?
In our view, the period from late February to mid-March is the best time to combine:
- long days, without it ever being fully light;
- the chance to see the Northern Lights, sometimes even on the way back from a run;
- snow still lying by the sea, minimising the need for portages (a real luxury when you’re out for several days in a row);
- a unique, luminous atmosphere: endless twilights, soft contrasts, sea mist…
On board, you’ll find kayaks, fishing gear, a library, a piano… and plenty of space to really unwind.
Required level
This trip is designed for skiers who already have experience in alpine terrain:
- Confident traversing on all types of slopes and snow conditions
- Confident descending in all types of conditions,
- Daily elevation gains of 800 to 1,400 metres,
- Non-glacial routes, but which may require the use of techniques and methods specific to challenging ski mountaineering.
