Set sail for Greenland on a sailing adventure to discover icebergs and stars
For several years now, KAMAK has been tracing its path to the far reaches of the Arctic Ocean.
This time, it invites you to look up: to discover, beyond the fjords and glaciers, the sky itself.
In the Inuit language, Qilak refers to the celestial vault. In Greenland, it unfolds in all its purity: no stray light, crystal-clear air, and sometimes the dancing northern lights.
The summer of 2026 will see the launch of extraordinary expeditions. In partnership with the Hautes-Alpes Observatory and its director Marc Bretton, KAMAK will combine exploration of the earth with observation of the sky:
- August 1 to 20: Total eclipse & exploration
- August 20 to September 7: Discovery and exploration
- September 7 to 26: Discovery, exploration, and astronomy
🧭 A sailboat built for Arctic exploration
Since its creation in 2018 under the leadership of mountain guide Jean Bouchet, KAMAK Expeditions has been exploring the most remote fjords of the Arctic, often without any prior information.
Driven by a spirit of discovery and a love of the polar environment, the KAMAK project combines rigor, autonomy, and wonder.
Thanks to years of exploration in the fjords of Scoresby Sund, the crew now offers three expeditions to Greenland combining sailing, hiking, kayaking, and observation of the Arctic sky.
🌞 “Total Solar Eclipse” Expedition
- Embarkation: Ísafjörður, Iceland
- Disembarkation: Constable Point, Greenland
- Duration: 20 days
- Price: €9,400 per person
Departing from Ísafjörður in Iceland, we will board the KAMAK and then walk across the wild Hornstrandir peninsula in a few hours, before re-embarking for a two-day, two-night sail across the Denmark Strait to the entrance of Scoresby Fjord.
There, we will enjoy coastal sailing between glaciers and spectacular landscapes, with daytime hikes combining wildlife observation and various discoveries, and nighttime anchorages that will become windows onto infinity.
A weather router based in France will advise us whenever necessary on the clearest sites to offer exceptional skies.
The highlight: on August 12, 2026, KAMAK will be in the very heart of the path of totality of the total solar eclipse, which is expected to peak at around 4:30 p.m. UTC in the Rypefjord at the bottom of Scoresby.
Facing the glaciers, in the silence of the sea, we will experience this suspended moment when the light goes out and is reborn, painting the world with unreal but unforgettable colors.
This trip is an invitation to breathe in the sky and the earth as one, to combine science, silence, contemplation, and exploration in one of the last great unspoiled spaces accessible to humans.
“Discovery, exploration, and astronomy” expeditions
August 20 to September 7, 2026
September 7 to 26, 2026
Two immersive voyages to explore the fjords of Greenland’s east coast as autumn and the first northern lights transform the landscape.
- Embarkation: Constable Point
- Disembarkation: Constable Point (1st trip) or Ísafjörður (2nd trip)
- Duration: 18 to 19 days
- Price: €8,400 per person
Navigating among drifting ice, coastal hikes, wildlife watching, and evenings under the polar sky.
These expeditions offer a complete immersion in a mineral, luminous, and fragile world.
Departing from Constable Point (CNP), the small airport serving Ittoqqortoormiit, an Inuit village located at the entrance to the majestic Scoresby Fjord, KAMAK will set sail on a journey out of time.
For nearly three weeks, each of these expeditions will offer a complete immersion: sailing among icebergs, hiking in spectacular landscapes, and discovering a wilderness of exceptional beauty.
At this time of year, stargazing will be an integral part of the KAMAK experience in Greenland, between the sublime starry sky and the return of the Northern Lights in September.
🌍 Who are these expeditions aimed at?
KAMAK expeditions are designed for those who want to experience the Far North in a different way — far from timed tourism and standardised itineraries.
They focus on immersion, slowing down, observation and encounters.
To fully enjoy the trip, you must be able to walk for 4 to 5 hours on varied terrain (grass, rocks, scree). Activities are done in small groups: easy walks, glacier hikes, kayaking and night-time observations, depending on the weather.
Each passenger is free to participate or not in the day’s outings. On board, you can also choose to contemplate, fish, cook or simply listen to the silence of the fjord.
👉 Nothing is set in stone: the ice, the sea and our emotions dictate the programme.
🚢 Life aboard KAMAK
A mountain refuge floating in a world of ice
The sailing ship KAMAK is both an exploration vessel and a friendly refuge.
Life on board is similar to that of a mountain refuge: simplicity, solidarity and respect for the elements.
Decisions are made according to sea and ice conditions.
The crew and passengers adapt, improvise and share — this is the very spirit of the KAMAK adventure.
Participation in communal tasks (meals, washing up), conversations around the stove, evenings under the stars…
👉 KAMAK is not a cruise ship, but an authentic human experience.

Exceptional trip for the TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE
August 1 - 20

Discovery trip - Stars and Ice
August 20 - September 7
September 7 - 26
Departing from Constable Point (CNP), the small airport serving Ittoqqortoormiit, an Inuit village located at the entrance to the majestic Scoresby Fjord, KAMAK will set sail on a journey out of time.
For nearly three weeks, each of these expeditions will offer a complete immersion: sailing among icebergs, hiking in spectacular landscapes, and discovering a wilderness of exceptional beauty.
At this time of year, stargazing will be an integral part of the KAMAK experience in Greenland, between the sublime starry sky and the return of the Northern Lights in September.
The days will of course also be filled with life on board, observing the landscapes and icebergs, and daily walks of discovery and exploration.
The return journey for the first trip will be to CNP and for the second trip from around September 22, en route to Iceland, which we will approach via the Hornstrandir peninsula, then sail along the whale-filled fjords until we disembark at Ísafjörður or Reykjavik.
The fjords of the East Coast
- Scoresby Sund Bay, home to the small airport at Constable Point (CNP).
- Nansen Fjord offers superb hiking trails and a gigantic glacier that flows into the sea and produces enormous icebergs.
- Kangerlugssuaq Fjord is one of the wildest on the east coast due to its remoteness and the absence of any villages, apart from a fishing and hunting village that was abandoned 50 years ago and is now a historical curiosity. The bottom of this fjord is also occupied by one of the largest glaciers on the east coast, flowing directly from the ice cap. Outings here tend to take place on grassy or dry rocky terrain and sheep-covered slabs.
- Kangertiviagssaq Fjord and the Mythic Mountains cirque with the France Glacier, explored by Commander Charcot in the 1930s, at the bottom. This fjord offers sumptuous hikes on dry and glacial terrain interspersed with lakes and glaciers plunging into the sea.
- The Sermilik Fjord with all its ramifications; this area offers the possibility of visiting small fishing villages such as Tiniteqilak. Tassilak is the main town at the entrance to this fjord, and Kulusuk is a small island with a village and a small local airport.
- Louise Boyd was the first white explorer to survey the Arctic territories aboard a ship. Between 1926 and 1941, she organized seven expeditions there, including one where she spent much of the summer exploring and mapping the fjords north of Scoresby Sund. We had access to some of these maps, but we did not have the opportunity to talk to any navigators who had explored these areas. This made us want to steer the bow of KAMAK towards these mountainous territories.
